C. Virginia O'Hayer, PhD, is a clinical associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Drexel University College of Medicine.

Dr. O’Hayer conducts research in the field of behavioral medicine. In particular, she is interested in the application of “Third Wave” acceptance-based behavioral therapies, such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to behavioral medicine populations.

Dr. O’Hayer is currently conducting a randomized-controlled trial of ACT for people living with HIV (ACT with HIV study). She is also conducted a study of ACT for people living with cystic fibrosis, delivered via telehealth (webcam) versus in person. Dr. O’Hayer is also very passionate about helping providers increase their competence in serving trans and gender-nonconforming patients. Finally, Dr. O’Hayer is currently pursuing the application of radically open DBT (RO-DBT) for patients living with cystic fibrosis and other lung diseases.
