Tech Alert: New sign-in process for Drexel Connect effective August 18, 2024
August 8, 2024
On Sunday, August 18, 2024, Drexel Connect will be updated to handle sign-ins as Outlook, OneDrive, and other Microsoft 365 apps do. Having Drexel Connect work with Microsoft sign-in provides a more consistent experience for sign-in to Banner, DrexelOne, Zoom, and other services available to the Drexel community.
Sign in to Drexel Connect with Microsoft 365
To access Drexel Connect services starting August 18:
- Select Sign In on the updated Drexel Connect page. You’ll be redirected to the Microsoft 365 sign-in page.
- The Microsoft 365 sign-in page will display the Drexel logo and prompt you for your Drexel email address. You must include “@drexel.edu” after your user ID (for example, abc123@drexel.edu) or your account will not be found.
- If you've set up passwordless sign-in, you'll skip this step, otherwise you'll be prompted to enter your password.
- What you see next will depend on how you have Multifactor Authentication setup:
- If you’re set up to receive a push notification to the Microsoft Authenticator app, the sign-in page might show a random two-digit number before sending a push notification to the Authenticator app on your mobile device.
- If you’re set up to receive a code by text message, your phone will receive a code. Enter the corresponding code where prompted.
- If you see the two-digit number, open the notification received on your iPhone, iPad, or Android, enter the corresponding two-digit number, and then tap Yes. Depending on your settings, you might also have to use Face ID or provide your fingerprint to complete your sign-in.
How this affects Drexel Connect
This change brings improved security and convenience features to Drexel Connect that had only been available to the Microsoft 365 sign-in page. These features include:
- Being able to easily use secondary MFA verification methods: If you lose or replace your phone, having additional verification methods makes it easy to get back to your account without needing help desk assistance.
- Geolocation confirmations: Push notifications to the Microsoft Authenticator app show where a sign-in is coming from to make it easier for you to detect unauthorized password use.
- Passwordless sign-in: The Microsoft Authenticator app can be used to skip typing your password. It’s convenient and more secure, particularly when you’re using a shared, borrowed, or unknown device. Learn more about passwordless sign-in.
