Lighthouse 1893

Project Title and Description

Lighthouse 1893

Lighthouse 1893, a historical settlement house (http://www.philaplace.org/story/948/), is looking for ideas on how to redesign/renovate its mechanical systems.  The major challenge is to heat the gymnasium and pool area efficiently and cost-effectively.  The building also needs an overall energy efficiency improvement.  Besides these two immediate needs, the building also welcomes other ideas in the environmental, civil, and architectural engineering areas to improve its overall function and sustainability.  The selected team is expected to conduct field visits and interviews with stakeholders.  New mechanical systems will be designed and will need to be simulated to demonstrate their energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness.  Other energy conservation measures will be selected based on their cost-effectiveness.  Other civil & architectural renovation ideas, such as a more sustainable water systems, could be included.
