Glen Foerd Historical Park

Project Title and Description

Glen Foerd Historical Park

The Glen Foerd Historical Park is an 18-acre environmentally-sensitive park in northeast Philadelphia sited alongside the Delaware River at the intersection of the Poquessing Creek. The site consists of parkland, wildlife habitats including a protected osprey nest, tidal wetlands, and a number of historic buildings that remain today dating from 1850. The Senior Design Team will have the opportunity to work with the park’s Executive Director to determine appropriate strategies to support the program activities at Glen Foerd. Work could include strategies to protect the shoreline along the site, development of boardwalk and river access along the shoreline, design of a boat house, adaptive reuse of the historic Carriage House, redesign of the main drive and parking areas, site lighting to support evening events such as weddings, and development of the waterfront and support structures for Philadelphia Waterborne, an educational program that utilizes boat building, maritime history, and environmental education as a way to engage high school students.
