Drexel Aerial Pier

Project Title and Description

Drexel Aerial Pier

As part of Drexel University’s Innovation Neighborhood to become a centerpiece of innovation, technology, globalization, and economic development in our region, the Drexel Aerial Pier is a potential site that extends to the east from Drexel Park to claim the air rights over the rail yards and could extend to the north to connect with Spring Garden Street and the Schuylkill River Trail. The aerial pier will provide needed community space for students and Powelton Village residents, will contribute to Philadelphia’s Green City, Clean Waters plan through a novel integrated plaza and green stormwater infrastructure system, and will include various community buildings that are demonstration projects of the latest in state-of-the-art passive and active environmental design.
