Academics

The College of Engineering has seven academic departments focused on education, research and engineering leadership.

We offer 11 undergraduate majors plus a number of minors and concentrations, as well as 18 graduate degree programs. See descriptions of our areas of study.

Through our cooperative education program, students balance classroom theory with practical, hands-on experience. Students alternate classes with full-time employment through University-approved employers.

A Day in the Life of a Co-op

With this standing feature, we highlight the cooperative program, in which students fulfill six-month internships in fields of their own choosing to gain experience and to see how they like the work. But what exactly is that work? What does a co-op do all day? What are the tasks assigned? And what time is lunch?

Alejandro doesn't have to go far for his co-op; it was completed here working in the Mesoscale Materials Laboratory under Dr. Jonathan Spanier.
