Clinical Optometry

The Master of Science in Clinical Optometry (MSCO) is designed for international ophthalmic practitioners desiring to advance their knowledge and skills in optometric care and to experience specialized training within a specific content area. This degree program is not an entry-to-practice degree program in the United States. Students who are successful in completing the MSCO degree program may choose to apply to the Advanced Placement Doctor of Optometry degree program offered by the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. This degree program features courses in biomedical science, ocular disease, visual science, clinical skills and patient care, in addition to research design applications, including a culminating scholarly project. Students also earn a certificate in their choice of one of the following specialized content areas:
- Binocular Vision and Vision Therapy
- Vision Impairment and Rehabilitation
- Contact Lens
The program is delivered in 38 semester hour credits over a 12-month period and is currently being offered in two different tracks. One track utilizes a full-time, on-campus delivery model and one track utilizes a hybrid delivery format. For the hybrid delivery track, most lectures are delivered online. Students are required to come to campus for the second portion of the year to complete their clinical coursework.
