Immunology
Medicine (MD, Biomedical, and Professional Studies)
The Master of Science in Immunology (IMNO), offered by the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and the Institute for Molecular Medicine and Infectious Disease (IMMID), is a non-thesis degree program offered in the online format. It provides education and training in research in basic and clinical immunology and diseases that have an immunological basis. Core courses focus on cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics and immunology. Elective courses can be used to tailor the degree program focusing on molecular biology, clinical immunology, infectious diseases or drug and vaccine development. Students acquire theoretical and practical knowledge about the normal functions of the immune system and disease pathogenesis associated with immunological dysfunction. Students also learn how this knowledge can be applied to develop tools for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, and how this knowledge can be applied to improve the prognosis and prevention of immunologically based diseases. Program graduates will be ready to enter the biotechnology workforce or improve competitivity for promotion and are attractive candidates for doctoral programs in science and medicine. Graduates are also well prepared for acceptance into higher professional degree programs, such as medical, veterinary, and physicians’ assistant schools.
