Drexel actively supports research that benefits communities, public service by students and faculty, and business practices that spur economic development.
What is Community Service?
Community service is the action of connecting with the community for the purpose of improving lives of all ages. Students are able to become active members in society and contribute in a meaningful way by participating through volunteer work.
Civic Engagement
Civic engagement not only unites neighborhoods — it also educates students in problem solving, understanding diversity, good citizenship, and leadership. These attributes are at the core of Drexel University's mission. Drexel is committed to solving real problems and making a difference in the lives of our students and our neighbors.
Drexel supports three types of civic engagement:
- Research and academic programs that directly benefit communities
- Public service by students and faculty
- Business practices that support local economic development
Engagement is long term and multi-generational, and it is fundamental to Drexel's mission, heritage, and future.
- Student Service Organizations – These groups allow like-minded students to meet up, serve the community, and make a difference.
- Lindy Center for Civic Engagement – The center promotes the ideals of social responsibility and public service by facilitating community-based experiential learning for students, faculty, and staff.
- Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships – The center brings together Drexel students, faculty, and neighborhood residents like never before to pioneer real solutions to pressing urban challenges.
