Some bactericidal, fungicidal and virucidal cleaning product utilize didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride and n-alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride as their active ingredients. These quaternary ammonium compounds cause toxicity upon ingestion via corrosive injury to the lips, mouth, pharynx, and gastrointestinal tract. Large ingestions may also produce vomiting and diarrhea.
