Having Support Makes All the Difference

Jen Ensor has always enjoyed helping others in all areas of life. Throughout high school, she was focused on making a difference and planned to work in a hands-on field after graduation. With clear objectives in mind, she enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve. After completing basic training, Jen began training to become an Army medic, then worked alongside a physician assistant and Drexel alum, who was practicing at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Inspired by his competence and professionalism, Jen decided this was a career she wanted to learn more about and consider for her future.

After graduating from Drexel’s program in 2016, this New York physician assistant and her husband take advantage of their new home city and their love of travel every chance they can.

Veterans in Drexel's PA Program Continue Longstanding Military Connection for the Profession

The physician assistant (PA) profession is deeply rooted in the military with ties dating back to 1965 – the year the nation’s first “physician assistant” educational program was inaugurated at Duke University. The Program accepted four former Navy medical corpsmen. Other veterans were inspired by this potential career path, thanks in part to a Reader’s Digest article about careers in health care noting the PA profession and a White House Conference on Health that same year that discussed the use of former military corpsmen/medics as “assistant medical officers,” and inquiries began to flood.
