Drexel students Scott Naples and Amanda Malik brought together the College of Nursing and Health Professions and School of Public Health for the first-ever Health Professions Dinner, where attendees discussed interdisciplinary medical practices. In a large group discussion, students from the Physician Assistant Program reviewed two medical cases with students from the School of Public Health, one about an HIV patient and another about immunization clinical trials.

“The purpose is to bring together students from different health professions to discuss cases relevant to our studies. Oftentimes our classes and programs feel separated, but once we enter careers we are expected to work together,” Malik said. This event is a prime example of students taking initiative to create even more opportunities for interdisciplinary interaction.

Naples and Malik were inspired by the success of the event and want to create more opportunities for interdisciplinary discussion in the future. They hope to expand and get more disciplines involved in these dinnertime discussions.
