"The Drug Discovery and Development program is super malleable. If you're not sure what you want to do, it is a great program for you. But it's also great for people who do know what they want, since it can be shaped to best fit your interests. I am interested in vaccines, which is a very niche area, but we were able to shape the program to make it work for me."

"The program has been great and extremely helpful. We have been exposed to so many different scientists, from pharmaceutical companies to different universities. From the PhD students to the post-docs and PIs, everyone on the pharmacology floor is willing to help you out to make sure that you are progressing in the way that you want to."

The Drug Discovery & Development program brought me many steps closer to my ultimate career goal of working in regulatory affairs at the FDA. The program included lecturers from industry and professors with real-world experience, all of whom helped me to build a strong scientific network.
Most importantly, the program opened my eyes to the enormous complexity of getting a safe, efficacious drug on the market. The need for better, safer drugs and the complex nature of drug discovery intrigues me.
The knowledge I've acquired — in both the classroom and the laboratory — and the scientific network I have established are two of the many reasons that I chose to pursue a PhD in Pharmacology and Physiology [at the College of Medicine].
