D.E.M.O. (Drexel Experiences in Materials Outreach) is a group comprised of undergraduate and graduate students who help out with the various STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) outreach activities that occur throughout the year.
These activities are centered on a variety of materials-focused, hands-on demonstrations for students of all ages and, often, their parents. The purposes of the activities are to get kids excited about science and engineering in general and to educate them and the general public about the field of materials science and engineering.
Two of the pinnacle events for the group are Philly Materials Science and Engineering Day and the Science Carnival, part of the Philadelphia Science Festival. Both of these events are free and open to the public, attracting thousands of kids and parents. The group gives students the opportunity to give back to the community and share their knowledge and excitement about materials.
Anyone interested in being part of D.E.M.O. should contact Dr. Christopher Weyant.
