CAEE Summer Institute

Participants will learn about the three engineering majors in the CAEE Department at Drexel University, namely Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, and Environmental Engineering (CAEE). One of the main objectives of the summer institute is to provide a detailed overview of these three majors so participants can use this information to help them choose their major when applying to universities. The Summer Institute will also cover important information such as different career paths, sample occupations, and typical employers for each major.

Dates August 7–11, 2023
Format In-person, commuter
Cost $850
Eligibility Rising high school first-year students, sophomores, juniors, and seniors
Deadline April 1, 2023
More Info Visit the CAEE Summer Institute.

Electrical and Computer Engineering Summer Institute

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Drexel University is pleased to announce the 2023 virtual Summer Institute for rising high school juniors and seniors. Students will learn the basics of computer programming in the Python programming language, as well as the basics of programming embedded systems, using the ESP32 which is a low-cost, low-power microcontroller with integrated Wi-Fi. There are no prerequisites for enrollment — students do NOT need to know how to program a computer, nor need to have any experience with electronics.

The summer camp will be taught by faculty and students in the Drexel ECE Department. The content is well-suited for students potentially interested in a computer- or engineering-related college major.

Dates July 24–27, 2023
Format Virtual
Cost $400
Eligibility Rising high school juniors and seniors
Deadline July 15, 2023; enrollment will be handled on a rolling basis and will be limited to 40 students.
More Info Visit the ECE Summer Institute.

Materials Science and Engineering Summer Institute

The Drexel University Materials Science and Engineering Summer Institute is a one-week program that will give aspiring scientists and engineers the chance to learn about how atomic elements arrange themselves to form the materials that are all around us. Furthermore, the Summer Institute will emphasize how variables in the processing of materials determine physical, mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties. Through hands-on science and engineering activities, students will gain an understanding of how materials impact the fields of energy, biotechnology, and electronics. Sustainability and nanotechnology will be a theme woven through the modules. Both in-person and online versions of the program are available. Experimental supplies will be provided for both delivery modes.

Dates In-person: July 17–20, 2023
Virtual: July 31–August 3, 2023
Format On-campus, commuter
