The Natural Materials and Polymer Processing Group, is headed by Margaret C. Burns Chair in Engineering and Professor in Materials Science and Engineering Caroline Schauer. The NMPP group works primarily in the area of sustainable natural materials as a platform for multifunctional applications, including tissue engineering and sensors. The group is at the forefront of novel fiber production methods to create nanofibers, nanoyarns, and 3D fiber constructs. Working with industrial polymer processing methods to create more sustainable polymer materials the group currently works with post-recycled and industrial food waste streams.
