General Public
Philly Materials Science and Engineering Day
Philly Materials Science and Engineering Day (Philly Materials Day) is a one-day hands-on event open to the general public to introduce people to the excitement of the field of materials science and engineering. The event is held the first Saturday in February in conjunction with the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, the Franklin Institute, the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, and other partners.

High School Students
ASM International Materials Camp
ASM International Materials Camp is a one-week free camp sponsored by ASM International for rising high school juniors and seniors to introduce them to the excitement of materials science and engineering. It is a hands-on camp held in the department that combines hands-on labs, an industry visit, short lectures, and interactions with current Drexel materials students.
Drexel Materials Science and Engineering Summer Institute
The Drexel Materials Science and Engineering Summer Institute (Materials Summer Institute) is a fee-based one-week summer camp focused on the areas of nanotechnology and sustainability as they relate to the fields of energy, biotechnology, and electronics. This camp is for rising juniors, seniors, and recent high school graduates looking to deepen their knowledge about materials science and engineering.
Drexel Incoming First-Year Students
MATE 100: Materials for Emerging Technologies
Materials for Emerging Technologies is a two-day two-credit introductory freshman course which takes place two days prior to the start of the freshman year. Students receive an overview of the field of materials science and engineering through faculty lectures and experiences in the materials labs. The course is open to all entering engineering students, although registration is not a guarantee of acceptance as space is limited. Preference is given to materials and undecided engineering majors.
