Readmission to an Undergraduate Program
Readmission is the process for previously enrolled Drexel students, who have an inactive status and did not earn a degree, to re-enroll at the University.
If your record has been inactivated due to officially withdrawing from the University or you have not registered for classes for four consecutive quarters or three consecutive semesters, you will need to be readmitted to your program in order to continue your education at Drexel. You cannot be granted readmission to a degree program from which you have already graduated.
All former students who fall within the readmission guidelines above must submit an application for reentry to the University.
Do I Need to Be Readmitted to Drexel?
If you meet any of the following criteria, you must apply for readmission to Drexel:
- If you have not registered or been enrolled for four or more consecutive quarters or three or more consecutive semesters (one full academic year), including summer terms.
- If you officially withdrew from the University. (Students who have officially withdrawn after the add/drop period of their first term and are looking to re-enroll at their previous level must sit out the following term before returning to the University.)
- If you were academically dismissed, not reinstated, and did not return for four or more consecutive quarters or three or more consecutive semesters. (Students who have been permanently dismissed are not eligible to be considered for readmission.)
- If you have taken a leave of absence for four or more consecutive quarters or three or more consecutive semesters (one full academic year), including summer terms. See the chart below for an illustration of enrollment history that would require readmission:
Term | Enrollment History Requiring Readmission |
---|---|
Fall Quarter | Registered for classes |
Winter Quarter | No Registration |
Spring Quarter | No Registration |
Summer Quarter | No Registration |
Fall Quarter | No Registration |
Winter Quarter | Wants to Register for classes – must be re-admitted |
You do not need to apply for readmission if you meet any of the following criteria:
- If you are a student who did not officially withdraw from Drexel AND you have not been enrolled in classes within the last four consecutive quarters, you are still considered active. Please contact your academic advisor to discuss restarting enrollment in your program.
- You must apply using the traditional admissions process if:
- You officially withdrew from the University during the add/drop period of your first term at Drexel and did not continue on to a second term.
- You have or will have graduated.
- You are a student who has only previously enrolled as a non-degree, nonmatriculated, or visiting student applying to a degree-seeking program.
-
You are a student who has only previously enrolled as an undergraduate certificate student, completed or will complete that certificate, and are now applying to a bachelor's degree program.
- You are a student who has only previously enrolled as a graduate/professional student at Drexel and are now looking to attend an undergraduate program.
What Are the Application Steps for Readmission?
Before you apply for readmission, you should review the following:
Holds
You will need to resolve most holds on your record before you can be considered for readmission. The most common holds are financial, academic, and judicial (student conduct). If you have holds, you are welcome to begin the readmission application process, but these holds must be resolved before you can receive a final decision.
To learn if you have a hold, please log in via DrexelOne. If you no longer have access to DrexelOne, please contact Drexel Central.
Satisfactory Academic Progress
Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) is the process by which your prior academic coursework is used to evaluate your eligibility for federal financial aid. If you are offered readmission, your SAP status will be the same as of the date of your last enrollment at Drexel (any coursework completed at other institutions while you are not enrolled at Drexel does not impact SAP). If you are determined to be failing SAP, you will be ineligible to receive federal financial aid for the first year you are back at Drexel; you will be evaluated for eligibility again after your first year back is complete.
Please note: Your SAP status does not affect your readmission decision.

To determine your current SAP status, please log in via DrexelOne. If you no longer have access to DrexelOne, please contact Drexel Central.
Applying for Financial Aid
Students are not automatically eligible for the same financial aid assistance they originally received. Generally, students who have not been enrolled at Drexel for 4 or more academic terms will need to reapply for need-based institutional, federal, and state aid by submitting the FAFSA. International students must also submit the CSS profile. Readmission applicants will automatically be reconsidered for merit-based awards. Those who qualify for the Drexel Promise do not need to submit the CSS Profile.
Those who return to the university within 4 terms will generally have their previous financial aid package reinstated.
Application Process
Once you have reviewed the preliminary points above, you can begin the readmission process:
- Submit an application:
- Apply for admission to be an undergraduate student on campus (and indicate you have previously attended/enrolled) through Drexel University's Admission Application. Please use your email address as your user ID and your established password when logging in as a returning user. If you have not created an account through Drexel's application before, please select "Create an account" to do so.
- Readmission for a Drexel Online Education program.
- There is no fee for applying.
- Complete a CSS Profile (full-time international students only, as needed; see information about financial aid above).
- Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (domestic students only).
- Admissions will add your Drexel University transcript to your readmission application within one week of submission.
- If you have completed coursework at another college or university since you were last enrolled at Drexel, please ensure that you submit official transcripts to be added to your application. If the transcripts you submitted with your previous application are still on file, they will be added to your readmission application within one week of your application submission. Please note that credits taken at another institution will not count toward your Drexel GPA.
- An essay is not required for readmission, but it is recommended that you provide an essay discussing your interest in returning to the University.
- The term of reentry requested when applying for readmission will be considered by the Admissions Committee. However, please note that the committee and the college or school that houses your program may determine that it is best for you to re-enter in a different term. If so, you will be notified by Admissions.
- If your program does not enroll for the term you plan to return to the University, please submit a fall application for your intended major and email transferadmissions@drexel.edu to request a change of term.
- For students who were academically dismissed, further information may be requested by the academic department for the review of your academic reinstatement.
- Students returning from a leave of absence should refer to the Leave of Absence policy.
Deadlines
You must submit a complete readmission application two months prior to the start of the term to which you wish to be readmitted. Any readmission applications received after this date will continue to be reviewed on a rolling basis, but students may need to consider a future entry term if more time is needed for review.
Nursing ACE (Accelerated Career Entry) readmission applications are due as follows:
- Fall ACE Cohort – March 15
- Spring ACE Cohort – September 15
Students who require reinstatement from academic dismissal are encouraged to apply early, as the review for your academic reinstatement will occur at the same time you are reviewed for readmission.
