SEPTA Key Advantage Program

Drexel and SEPTA

As part of the University's commitment to sustainability and its dedication to its faculty, professional staff and the city of Philadelphia, Drexel partners with SEPTA to offer benefit-eligible employees all-access SEPTA monthly transit passes through the Key Advantage Program.

Note: The SEPTA Key Advantage Program for benefits-eligible faculty and professional staff is separate from the pilot program for stipend-eligible doctoral students, which is detailed on the Graduate College's website.

Eligibility

Full-time and part-time benefits-eligible employees can participate, with one exception: Employees aged 65 and over who are residents of Pennsylvania are not included in this program because they are eligible for SEPTA’s free Senior Fare Card, which has all the same benefits as SEPTA Key Advantage. Employees aged 65 and over who reside in New Jersey or Delaware and use the mass transit system to travel to work will be able to participate in this program.

Services Covered

The SEPTA Key Advantage Program works like the Key Card Anywhere TrailPass, which is valid for travel on all SEPTA services, including Regional Rail, buses, subways, trolleys and the Norristown High Speed Line. Drexel subsidizes the cost of SEPTA’s Key Advantage Program to provide you with a reduced fare at about 90-percent off the typical monthly Anywhere Trailpass pricing.

If you are currently participating in Drexel's Commuter Program and loading money from your Flexible Spending Card to your SEPTA Key Card, you will want to discontinue participating in that benefit to participate in this program.

Cost of Enrollment

Effective July 1, 2023, participants will contribute $20 (pre-tax) co-pays toward their passes, deducted monthly from payroll. You will also have the flexibility to start and stop the program whenever you need.

How to Enroll

Drexel has partnered with Philadelphia-based technology company jawnt to make the enrollment process more streamlined. Newly eligible employees will receive an email from jawnt (hello@jawntpass.com) that will invite you to enroll in this benefit. Ongoing management of the benefit can be done through the Employee tab in DrexelOne under "My Benefits." For more information on how to enroll in the SEPTA Key Advantage program with jawnt, visit jawnt's support website.

Please note: jawnt services are for the SEPTA Key Advantage Program only.

SEPTA Key Card Locations

Key Cards can be purchased at Key Card Buy/Load Locations, as well as the DragonCard office. The cost to purchase a Key Card is $4.95. If you register your card within 30 days of the purchase date, the $4.95 purchase fee will automatically be applied to the Card Travel Wallet. Travel Wallet funds on registered Key Cards never expire.

Lost, Stolen, Damaged or Expired Key Cards

You must obtain a new Key Card at any Key Card Buy/Load Location. Log in to your SEPTA Key account and transfer SEPTA Key Advantage Pass onto your new card, and then update your jawnt account with your new Card Reference ID. Visit jawnt's support site to review an article that walks you through this entire process.

Should you ever need to replace the card that is registered/linked to your jawnt portal, it is your responsibility to update your new Card Reference ID immediately to ensure no disruption in service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to confirm my participation in the program each month?

No. Once you enroll, your participation in the program will continue and your card will be automatically loaded each month. You only will need to update your Card Reference ID should you lose and replace the one registered.

I have a balance in my travel wallet. What happens to that money when I participate in the SEPTA Key Advantage Program?

Any available balances will remain in your Key Card’s travel wallet. Since the SEPTA Key Card Advantage Program works like the monthly Anywhere pass, trips are always set to draw first from the monthly product, not the travel wallet. Trips are only drawn from the travel wallet purse when there isn’t a monthly pass loaded on the card.

I have been using the SEPTA weekly pass; how does it work with the monthly SEPTA Key Advantage Program?

The SEPTA Key Advantage Program would replace weekly and monthly passes. If you are a new participant in the program, be sure that you do NOT load a weekly pass for the final week of the month prior. You will want to load money onto the SEPTA Key Travel Wallet to pay for rides until the monthly pass through the program is loaded. Be sure that you keep an eye on your balance on the card, as a negative balance will not allow a pass to load to the card.

What if I no longer want to participate in the SEPTA Key Advantage Program?

If you wish to unenroll in the Key Advantage benefit, you can do so directly in your jawnt account by following instructions on jawnt's support site.

What if I use both PATCO and SEPTA for my commute?

If you currently use a Freedom Card to commute on both PATCO and SEPTA, you will need to obtain, register and enroll a SEPTA Key Card through the jawnt portal for travel on SEPTA and use the Freedom Card only for travel on PATCO.

I am enrolled in Drexel parking; how do I cancel while I take part in the SEPTA Key Advantage Program?

Parking off Campus

  • Visit DrexelOne.
  • Select Employee Tab.
  • Click on My Drexel Benefits.
  • In the Commuter Benefits widget, click Change.

If you have difficulty with this process, please call the Benefits Service Center at 844.690.3992.

Parking on Campus

Employees wishing to cancel their Drexel payroll-deduction parking permit should log in to ParkDrexel using their DrexelOne credentials and select Manage Permit, and then Request Expiration.

Be sure to cancel your Drexel permit by the 15th (monthly paid employees), or the Wednesday before your paycheck (weekly and biweekly paid employees) to avoid needing a refund in the next paycheck. For more information or questions, contact parking@drexel.edu.

What if I have a Reduced Fare Card or CCT Fare Card?

  • The Reduced Fare Card allows for half-price travel and cannot be loaded with the SEPTA Key Advantage fare product. As the Key Advantage program costs $20 per month for travel, you would need to obtain a standard Key Card in order to receive the Key Advantage pass.
  • The CCT Fare Card acts like a SEPTA Key Card, and its Card Reference ID will load like a Key Card, so you can use your existing CCT Fare Card and still get all access to SEPTA through the Key Advantage program.
