Fellowship and scholarship opportunities are available within Drexel and the department, as well as externally through federal agencies, professional societies, international students’ home countries, and other sources.
Fellowships and scholarships typically require submission of an application, essays, recommendation letters, and/or financial need information through a FAFSA. Please carefully review the specific requirements of each fellowship prior to applying.
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering maintains a database of materials-related external scholarships and fellowships that is updated as new information is received. Please note this database is not exhaustive and should serve as a starting point for researching what exists for materials science and engineering students. Another external resource is Pathways to Science, a project of the Institute for Broadening Participation. Students can search for funding and research opportunities through this site.
Additional internal resources are listed below.
Drexel University Grants and Scholarships
Through Drexel Central, students will find a list of grants and scholarships available to Drexel University students and applicants.
Drexel Undergraduate Research & Enrichment Programs

A.W. and Dorothy Grosvenor Scholarship
Awarded to students who have demonstrated academic excellence and an interest in the field of materials science and engineering (and particularly metallurgy).
Michael J. Koczak Scholarship
Awarded to a materials science and engineering student with academic merit and financial need.
Anne Stevens Endowed Scholarship
The Anne L. Stevens Scholarship Program for Young Women was established with a $500,000 gift from Drexel Materials alumna Anne L. Stevens (BS ’80) and the Lockheed Martin Corporation Directors Charitable Award Fund. The scholarship fund provides financial support to students in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering in recognition of academic merit and support for efforts to increase the involvement of women in STEM.
