What You’ll Learn

NEW FOR FALL 2027: The Bachelor of Science in Information (BSINFO) program combines a strong foundation in information concepts with practical, hands-on skills. You’ll learn how to understand, evaluate, and design information environments at the intersection of People, Information, and Technology (PIT).

Program Features

• You will develop fluency in computational thinking, data modeling, database systems, and systems analysis. Along the way, you'll explore how information is created, organized, shared, and used in real-world settings.
• Courses examine emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, within the broader information ecosystem. You'll explore how algorithmic systems influence data practices, decision-making, and the way organizations operate.
• Core coursework focuses on the connections between technology, people, and institutions, enabling you to analyze information challenges from multiple perspectives rather than treating them as purely technical problems.
• The human and organizational side of information is equally important. You learn to identify user and stakeholder needs, evaluate workflows and information flows, and design information environments that are effective, inclusive, and responsive to real-world contexts.
• Ethical, legal, and social issues are woven throughout the BSINFO curriculum. You examine topics such as privacy, accessibility, artificial intelligence, security, governance, bias, and accountability, while learning to apply ethical frameworks to information design and decision-making.

How You Can Customize Your Degree

Shape the program around your interests and career goals by tailoring your studies through electives and focused areas of interest. You can further customize your degree by adding a minor from the many options available in the Howley College of Engineering and Computing or from hundreds of minors offered across the University.

How You Can Gain Real-World Experience Before Graduating

Through experiences such as co-ops, our annual hackathon, and a year-long team capstone project, you'll apply what you've learned in the classroom to real challenges, build professional skills, and expand your network.

Cooperative Education

Drexel Co-op gives students the opportunity to explore career paths, gain valuable professional experience, and build connections before graduation. Students can choose from more than 1,700 employers across 35 states and 45 international locations, or pursue an independent search. Students in the BSINFO program can choose between a four-year option with up to one co-op experience or a five-year option with up to three co-op experiences. Senior Project

Every student participates in a year-long, collaborative senior project that tackles a real-world challenge proposed by one of our corporate partners. Working alongside industry mentors, students apply their knowledge and skills to develop meaningful solutions. Read more about Senior Project.

Codefest — SCIS’s Hackathon

Each spring, SCIS hosts Philadelphia’s largest hackathon, bringing together students, industry partners, and innovators to solve real-world challenges. Many corporate-sponsored projects have gone on to become viable, marketable solutions. Read more.
