Tips for Transfer Students

Things are oftentimes easier the second time around, and transferring to another college should be no different. Although you have a better idea of what the application process looks like this time, we're sure you still have questions about things like deadlines, transfer credits, and scholarships. For that reason, we've included some helpful tips below to ensure your transfer experience goes smoothly.

Apply Early

The earlier you apply, the more time you will have to tie up all those loose ends that seem to always pop up right before classes start. Fall applications are typically available one year in advance. There are also options to transfer into the winter and spring terms. Each term has a priority deadline, but admission is rolling for transfer applicants. Our admissions team will continue to review transfer applications up until about one month before classes begin.

Once admitted, you will receive your official transfer credit evaluation within 2–4 weeks so you can make an informed decision before committing to Drexel. Our generous transfer credit policy allows up to 90 semester/135 quarter credits earned with a C or higher at a regionally accredited institution to be considered for transfer.

Create a Financing Plan

With the right planning, financing your education as a transfer student doesn't have to feel like you are starting the college search process all over again. All transfer applicants are automatically considered for merit-based aid. To be considered for need-based aid, domestic students will want to submit the FAFSA, and international applicants will need to submit the CSS Profile. Learn more about financing options available to international students.

There are a number of scholarships available to transfer students to use at Drexel University. Students who have completed their associate's degree at a regionally accredited community college are eligible to receive The Drexel Promise scholarship, which awards students 50% off tuition. Additional scholarships include the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Scholarship, Dragon Alumni Scholarship, Westphal Portfolio Scholarship, and our Performing Arts Scholarship. We also encourage students to take advantage of private scholarships to help fund their education.

Visit!

In addition to academics, there is so much to consider when transferring to a new college — what student clubs and organizations are available to join? Are there opportunities for civic engagement? Is the campus accessible via public transportation? We highly recommend registering for one of our on-campus information sessions and tours to familiarize yourself with Drexel and learn more about our transfer application requirements, student life, and exciting research opportunities. We also hold multiple Open Houses throughout the year where you can meet with academic departments to learn more about your program of interest.

We wish you the best of luck as you embark on this exciting next chapter of your educational journey. If you have any questions along the way, please feel free to contact us at enroll@drexel.edu, as we are happy to help!
