Dr. Janet Sloand has worked in the field of special education for the past 36 years. Janet joined the faculty of Drexel University in 2016 as a Clinical Professor in the Special Education Program. Prior to joining Drexel University, Janet served in a number of key roles within Pre-K to 12 education system in Pennsylvania including having served as the Director of the Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network, the Senior Director of Student Services at Commonwealth Connections Charter School, and the Special Education Director at Lancaster-Lebanon IU 13. Before becoming an administrator, Janet was a special education teacher and a speech therapist working with children with significant disabilities for 6 years. She has a lifelong passion for working collaboratively with parents in improving educational outcomes for students and has partnered with Pennsylvania Parent Training Centers to bring about systems change. She is a well-known state and national presenter in the areas of Assistive Technology, Autism, Early Reading Instruction, Special Education Leadership, Students with Complex Instructional Needs and Systems Change. Janet holds a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Shippensburg University and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Duquesne University. Janet lives in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania with her husband and loves to walk, read, and travel in her spare time. She adores her family especially her nieces, nephew and 2 grandchildren.
