Active Duty at Drexel

I am active duty navy in the Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program (MECP). For those have no idea what I’m talking about, you basically attend school full time on campus while staying on active duty with only a few military obligations throughout the year. That being said, getting accepted to Drexel was unique because I needed to get my acceptance letter almost one year early for my MECP package. Sounds easy enough, but out of 30 some schools I spoke with, Drexel was by far the most helpful.

After being here for a year, I still haven't seen everything there is to do [in Philadelphia] and the veterans office is constantly putting together events, and inviting me to baseball games, so if you’re worried about being bored that’s not going to happen here.

Once I called admissions and explained the situation, I quickly found myself being transferred to the Veterans Student Services, who then assisted me though my unique process. I cannot explain enough how easy things became once I started receiving help from the veterans office. Even today in my junior year, I reach out when I need assistance and the veterans office always has my back!

I ultimately chose to come to Drexel for three reasons. First, they have a deep rooted and rich military history. Second, the College of Nursing and Health Professions has a sustained high NCLEX pass rate, and third, the opportunity to attend clinical at some of the best teaching hospitals in the country. OK, so maybe four reasons, because living in the city of Philadelphia is FUN! After being here for a year, I still haven't seen everything there is to do and the veterans office is constantly putting together events, and inviting me to baseball games, so if you're worried about being bored that's not going to happen here.

If you're reading this and you are a transitioning military member who is nervous about being in the civilian life, then I ask you to take a deep breath and relax because at Drexel you are surrounded by other veterans and an excellent staff who is truly committed to your success.
