About the Series

The Graduate Online Success Series: Grad Online Jawn is a series of online workshops offered by the Office of Graduate Studies and the McGonigal Academic Resources Center (ARC), in collaboration with campus partners, to provide graduate students with key skills and resources to support them throughout their academic journey. Setting Goals with Purpose

Tuesday, April 23, 2026
5 to 6 p.m. EDT
Virtual via Zoom

Register [Zoom]

Description: It's important to set goals, or at least have a general direction in mind, to move productively from point to point in our lives. However, sometimes we set a goal for ourselves and work and struggle to achieve it and then think, "Great! Now what?"

Achieving goals, whether personal or professional, should consist of more than simply checking a box. What if there were an alternative way to approach goal planning that would help in not only defining and achieving a specific goal, but also creating space for multiple aims that support your purpose?

In this workshop, Kathy Choy, Assistant Director of Talent Development in Drexel Human Resources, will provide tools to help you describe the purpose behind your goals, offer guidance for identifying how specific actions support that purpose, and dig into ways to plot a course to get you closer to your purpose.

Facilitator: Kathy Choy, MS, Assistant Director of Talent Development, Drexel Human Resources

Writing to Make Things Happen

Thursday, May 14, 2026
12 to 1 p.m. EDT
Virtual via Zoom

Register [Zoom]

Description: Impactful writing makes things happen in the world. Early on in school, students often focus on achieving a grade. But when we move into advanced study, impactful writing becomes a way to make things happen—we use it to create and share knowledge, participate in communities of scholars and researchers, advocate for and communicate our ideas. In this workshop, led by representatives of the Drexel Writing Program and Drexel Writing Center, we'll think about what impactful writing can help you do in the world, discuss some of the challenges of writing in graduate school, and share concrete resources to support your large projects. Graduate Writing Consultants will introduce themselves and their areas of study and expertise, as well as demonstrate how to sign up for Drexel Writing Center consultations.
