Academic Deadlines

Academic Calendars

Graduate students are responsible for the academic dates and deadlines posted to Drexel's Academic Calendars located on the Provost's website, including term start and end dates, course add, drop and withdrawal deadlines, University Holidays, exam periods, etc.

The majority of academic programs operate on the University's quarter system. Please consult with your individual college or school to determine if your academic program is an exception to this rule and for additional dates and deadlines that may apply to your program.

Below are program completion and graduation deadlines for graduate students enrolled in quarter programs.

For information about Commencement, including dates, times, locations, tickets, regalia, etc. please visit the Commencement website.

Doctoral Students Only: Must complete a successful oral defense (D-5 Form filed with the Graduate College) by 4:00 PM EST Friday, May 24, 2019 in order to be listed in the Commencement program. Students who will not defend by Friday, May 24, 2019, but who are planning to defend and complete their degree requirements by the spring quarter deadline must submit a D-4 Form and provide a letter of support from the Committee Chair/Supervising Professor stating that they will complete their degree requirements by the spring quarter deadline. All documents must be submitted to the Graduate College by 4:00 PM EST Friday, May 24, 2019.

Walkthrough Information: If you are graduating in the summer term, you may be eligible to "walkthrough" the annual Commencement ceremony in June prior to your official graduation. Please refer to the Drexel Central website for the "Walkthrough Policy" and discuss your eligibility with your academic advisor. Students planning to walkthrough must file an "Application to Participate in Commencement Activities" signed by their academic advisor by the spring term application deadline, Monday, April 29, 2019, in order to be listed as a walkthrough in the Commencement program. In addition, doctoral students must be scheduled to defend during the summer quarter (D-4 Form filed with the Graduate College) and provide a letter of support from the Committee Chair/Supervising Professor stating that they will complete their degree requirements by the summer quarter deadline. All other summer term graduates will be listed in the 2019-2020 Commencement program.

If approved to walkthrough, you should submit your degree application for the term in which you will complete all of your degree requirements, NOT the term you are walking at Commencement.
