Honoring The Fallen: When One Serves, The Whole Family Serves - YouTube

Please join us virtually for Drexel’s 13th Annual Memorial Day Primer. Each year, our tradition pays tribute to those who have lost their lives in service and is designed to help us prepare for the nation’s observance of Memorial Day.  Major Jason Smigelski, Professor of Military Science, Drexel Army ROTC/Task Force Dragon will provide an overview of the Memorial Day holiday origins and traditions. When One Serves, The Whole Family Serves”, focuses on the perspective and experiences of Drexel Vice Provost for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Leslie Ashburn-Nardo and her husband Mark Nardo, whose father served 30 years in the US Marine Corps with three tours of duty in Vietnam, earning a Bronze Star. Mark served his country as well through service to military dependents by teaching on board a base. Their lives and careers include countless examples of patriotism by service members, commitment from military family members and witness to their inherent sacrifices.  Both Leslie and Mark are champions for military-connected individuals and their value in society and in higher education. A special thanks to Jonson Miller, Teaching Professor, Department of History for facilitating a candid conversation with Mark about growing up in a military family.
