BS in Mechanical Engineering Degree Program

Core Curriculum

Students from Drexel's Formula SAE team compete in the 2019 Formula SAE competition at Lincoln Airpark.

Full descriptions of the courses can be found in the Drexel University Catalog. Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics students are required to successfully complete 189.5 credits for graduation with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. The required courses for the BSME degree are a combination of engineering and elective courses that round out the full curriculum. The full list of courses required for the major can be found in the Drexel University Catalog. The recommended plan of study lists the courses recommended for each term in order to complete the program. Additionally, students can choose an optional concentration in either Aerospace or Energy.  Please see the Degree Requirements section of the BSME page in the Catalog.

Minors

Within the MEM curriculum, the opportunity exists to complete at least one minor subject area. Common minors are mathematics, languages, business administration, and other engineering designations. Each minor has its own set or requirements.

BS/MS Program

High-achieving students have the opportunity to apply for the BS/MS program which allows students to complete both a Bachelor's and Master's in Mechanical Engineering in a 5-year period. For information on the BS/MS program, please review the Catalog requirements and the Graduate College Policy.

For current students, please visit Advising for Engineers (A4E) located in Blackboard Learn under Administrative Term. From there, you can find requirements in the Department folder.

Hess Honors Program

Hess Scholar Angelica Batista used computed tomography (CT) imaging technology to analyze the left-right symmetry of weight-bearing tarsal bones under the mentorship of professor Sorin Siegler.

The Department offers the Hess Honors Program as an opportunity for students to engage in research under the mentorship of department faculty. Hess scholars participate in weekly group meetings to discuss the progress of their research. May be repeated five times for credit. Interested students should contact Frederic O. Hess Endowed Professor David Miller at dmiller@drexel.edu for more information.

Pennoni Honors College
