College Application Tips for Senior Year

Senior year is when the college search process kicks into high gear. Here are some tips that should help you during this process:

  • Narrow down your list of schools to those where you will apply. If you haven't already done so, take the SAT or ACT, if those schools require standardized test scores, and have your test scores sent to them.

  • Visit the schools that interest you the most. Almost all colleges and universities host open houses in the fall and campus visits year-round. Spending time getting to know what campus is like is the best way to find out if a school is right for you. View our tips for your college search videos for helpful questions recommended by our students.

  • If you are unable to visit, check out the schools' virtual tours and other virtual ways to connect and learn more.

  • Start working on your application essays and decide who you would like to write your letters of recommendation.

  • Begin searching for private scholarship opportunities.

  • Apply to the schools that made your final list. Be mindful of deadlines.

  • Review Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) credit policies at schools that interest you.

  • Consider financial aid requirements and complete all necessary documents.
