Drexel’s Religious and Spiritual Life

Within Drexel's campus community, there are various organizations, spaces, and resources for faculty, professional staff, and students in terms of religious and spiritual life. Regarding the various faiths and spiritual livelihoods that exist on campus, an environment of mutual respect, spiritual learning, and growth must be active. The collaboration of the Office of Institutional Equity and Inclusive Culture, Student Center for Diversity and Inclusion, Office of Student Life, chaplains, religious leaders, and spiritual leaders is what makes this culture happen. The end goal is to promote inclusive and open interfaith experiences.

For organizations and groups, there are 17 communities that exist on campus. For Islam, there is the Drexel Muslim Students Association. For Judaism, students can go to the Chabad Student Group and Jewish Student Association. For Christianity, they include Cru, Drexel Asian Baptist Student Koinonia, Drexel Chinese Graduate Christian Fellowship, Drexel LDSSA, Drexel Newman Catholic Community, Drexel Students for Christ, Drexel WEH, Every Nation Campus, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Graduate Christian Fellowship, Harvest Christian Fellowship, Open Door Christian Community, Renewal College Fellowship, and Story Fellowship. These religious and spiritual groups are open for our religious Drexel students who are looking for a faith community.

With these various communities, Drexel University students can have an outlet to cultivate and build their spiritual identities.

For practicing one’s faith and fellowship, there are different spots available on campus. For ministry, there are building spaces for the Baptist Campus Ministries, Open Door Christian Community, Newman Catholic Community, Drexel Hillel, Muslim Community, and Chabad Serving Drexel. For all faith communities, there are designated spaces that serve as interfaith chapels, multi-purpose spaces, meeting spots, and non-denominational chapels. In addition to specific faiths, there are the St. Katherine Drexel Chapel and Muslim Prayer Spaces. With these spaces, all different religious and spiritual seekers on campus can have a place to immerse themselves in their religious identities.

In addition to spaces, there are formal processes for anyone looking for specific accommodations with respect to their beliefs. For housing and dining, Drexel students can request specific and detailed accommodations via their DrexelOne account to ensure that they live and eat within comfortable boundaries. For academics, students are welcome to communicate with their professors for any accommodations for religious observances. The same religious observance process is also available for Drexel employees. Lastly, if anyone faces any instance of religious harassment and discrimination, the Office of Institutional Equity and Inclusive Culture is available to take any reports. In general, these resources and processes are available for Drexel students to feel seen and heard.

Drexel University's mission is to ensure that all students have a place here on campus. When it comes to faith and spiritual life, there are plenty of resources for students to take advantage of in search of that place. With these various communities, Drexel University students can have an outlet to cultivate and build their spiritual identities.
