Spring in Philadelphia
During this year's Groundhog Day, Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow, so according to tradition, Philadelphia can look forward to an early spring. Now is the ideal time to attend seasonal events as we usher in warmer days and blooming flowers! Here is a list of the biggest spring events and attractions happening in Philly.
Admire the flowers at the annual Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Philadelphia Flower Show (March 2–10)
The PHS Flower Show began in 1829 and is the oldest, largest horticultural indoor event in the world, so these blooms can't be missed! Each year follows a theme, and this year's is "United by Flowers." Visitors can also enjoy a large market, live performances, refreshments, and more with the flower displays designed by hundreds of florists and landscapers. The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on March 2nd through 10th at the Philadelphia Convention Center.
This city is the perfect spot for good eats, beautiful blooms, and even a solar eclipse.
Witness a solar eclipse! (April 8)
The first near-total eclipse in Philadelphia in 40 years is happening between 2:08 p.m. and 4:35 p.m. on April 8. The city will witness near totality, with 90.1% coverage at its peak, at 3:23 p.m. At Drexel, the Lynch Observatory provides an ideal viewing spot along with its public viewing nights each month. This is a must-see event, since the next solar eclipse like this won't arrive in Philadelphia until 2078!
Sample your way through the Manayunk StrEAT Food Festival (April 21)
On April 21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., food trucks with all sorts of cuisines will line Main Street of the Manayunk neighborhood in Northwest Philly. The event promises diverse foods from BBQ to desserts, along with shopping and six live performances at two different stages. The event is free to enter, with pay-as-you-go food and drink offerings.
Have some fun at the Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival (May 4)
Finally, in the heart of spring, you can visit one of the biggest street festivals in the city on May 4 from noon to 5 p.m. Rittenhouse is known for its shops, premier restaurants, and greenery in Rittenhouse Square — and the Spring Festival is the perfect place to witness all of it in the warm May weather. Vendors will have booths set up offering artwork, clothing, family fun, food, and beer and cocktail samplings. The festival starts at the Avenue of the Arts on Walnut Street all the way to Rittenhouse Square.
As the weather warms up, Philadelphia offers even more to do across its vibrant neighborhoods. This city is the perfect spot for good eats, beautiful blooms, and even a solar eclipse. Enjoy the flowers, sunshine, food, and fun!
