Student Journey as a Social Entrepreneur

Our guest blogger for the post below is Victoria Faith Miller, a third-year Drexel student majoring in entrepreneurship and innovation.

In high school, I realized I wanted to find a college that took a nuanced and individualized approach to business education — not just teach a strict curriculum of math and business classes. Choosing Drexel and the Charles D. Close School of Entrepreneurship came as an easy decision — they're all about nurturing unique ideas and creating individualized business education.

At Drexel's Close School, we dive into entrepreneurship courses right away. My journey kicked off with "Entrepreneurial Thinking" — an eye-opening course on nurturing an entrepreneurial mindset, a skill set valuable for any corporation or venture. Next, the course "Ready Set Fail" taught me to embrace boldness and resilience. Inspired by my studies, I launched "This Girl Cares," a social initiative challenging gender inequalities through innovative creations.

Thanks to the Close School's unique education, extensive opportunities, and support from faculty that truly cares, I have been empowered to embrace a path of social entrepreneurship and global impact — a dream of mine, becoming a reality. I connected with the HER Lab program, a life-changing experience. Collaborating with Global Give Back Circle on behalf of Drexel, I empowered young women in Kenya to expand their horizons and open their own businesses through entrepreneurship education. Building off the skills and tools I gained during my first year of entrepreneurship education at the Close School, I developed and delivered course content focusing on topics including target market identification, mission and vision statement creation, and personal branding. Teaching 50 Kenyan women about entrepreneurship was immensely fulfilling given my dream of helping others and making an impact in people's lives. Their business pitches showcased true empowerment and the impact a Close School education can give to society.

From courses that inspire boldness to global impact initiatives, Drexel's Charles D. Close School of Entrepreneurship is where dreams become reality.

Now, stepping into my third year, I'm excited for more experiential opportunities to come: Collaborating with Global Give Back Circle for future programs, launching a seed funding initiative with a new partner inspired by my time at HERLab, and aiming for placement in the Impact Innovation Hub Program — a program created by the Close School to help nurture and fund entrepreneurs seeking to solve social problems in 17 different areas (like poverty, sustainability, climate change, gender equality, and more) through the Baiada Institute. Additionally, I joined the Close School Ambassador Program and the Dean's Advisory Council, where my passion met purpose in helping fellow Dragons transform into confident entrepreneurs.

From my first term to this moment, Drexel's Close School shaped my path. It can shape yours too. From courses that inspire boldness to global impact initiatives, Drexel's Charles D.
