Meet the Author: Maggie Ho

Hi! My name is Maggie Ho and I am one of the assistant directors for Drexel Admissions. My experience with Drexel started much like yours, in high school as a prospective student!

I grew up around the Philadelphia area my entire life, so I always knew of Drexel, but didn’t know about Drexel. Coming from a first-generation family, Drexel just felt like a far off dream. I had no idea that Drexel would be such a big part of my life many years later!

I spent the better half of my college experience sharing with everyone and anyone about the college application process, college life, and preparing for life after college.

Before going to college, I already knew a few key things about myself. First things first, I knew I needed more than what a traditional classroom could offer me and I wanted hands-on experiences. Next, I wanted to be on a busier, bigger campus, preferably in the city. Finally, as a first-generation college student, a good financial fit was also important to me.

Somehow, I ended up at Drexel studying marketing and technology innovation management on a 5-year, 3-co-op track. I was so happy being at Drexel and passionate about my experiences that I started posting my story on my personal social media accounts and visiting my old high school to speak to seniors also considering Drexel. I spent the better half of my college experience sharing with everyone and anyone about the college application process, college life, and preparing for life after college.

By the time I was a fifth-year student, I was looking for full-time jobs within marketing after graduation...never thinking that recruiting for Drexel could ever be a possibility. One day, I saw an opening for an admissions counselor role within Drexel’s Admissions office and I took that as a sign! Fast forwarding through my story, I could not imagine doing anything else with my life than being a college recruiter, guiding students through the college application process.

In my role, I support all prospective students at the high school level and mainly travel to the southeast portion of the United States. My responsibilities will change depending on the time of year! In the fall, I visit students at their high schools and talk about all the opportunities available to them through Drexel. At the end of my travel season, I switch gears to read student applications! This has always been a very rewarding part of my life because I get to read about all my students’ experiences and the dreams they have for the future. Other times of the year, I help plan and host special events for students on campus! My life is ever changing but I love what I do and that is why I continue to be a resource to all our students.
