Admitted Students Days Perspectives

For undergraduate students who have been offered admission to Drexel, we invite them and their families to our Admitted Students Days, where they can learn more about the programs and majors they are interested in directly from University faculty and administrators. They can also get a better understanding of how they can finance their Drexel education. While New Dragons can connect with each other at these events, they can also connect with current Dragons from all over the University to hear firsthand about the offerings around campus. These events are designed to not only ease students' minds about their ultimate college decision, but also to allow students to find their new home and see if Drexel's campus, programs, and even the food are the right fit for them for the next several years of their lives.

To show just how critical these events are to students, we reached out to a few of our Student Ambassadors to get quick testimonials about their Admitted Students Day experience.

Let's hear from Esta Jacob, a second-year finance and legal studies major in the Bennett S. LeBow College of Business, who is pursuing a pre-law path and an accelerated MBA degree.

"I first came to an Admitted Students event when I was considering Drexel back in early 2020, right before COVID hit. Looking back, coming to that event was one of the greatest decisions I have ever made because I had to base my college decisions on everything I had learned and visited before COVID shut everything down. That event allowed me to take one more campus tour, see a residence hall, and talk to actual students about their experiences. Now, working as a Student Ambassador at these events, it is so nostalgic to think about how I was in the prospective students' shoes and how I am now providing them the experience that I once depended on."

You can see from Esta's story that sometimes you just need one more pass at the campus to know that a school is where you want to be. Hearing from current students and sharing in their experiences here at the University really helped her make a decision in a really trying time in her life, so maybe an Admitted Students Day can help provide some of that clarity for you too.

Next, we have Gabi Greco, a second-year biological sciences major in the College of Arts and Sciences, who loves rock climbing and has a passion for hands-on learning. What's more hands on than rock climbing?

"During my senior year of high school, I visited more schools than I can count. However, at my Admitted Students event at Drexel, they got us started on hands-on learning experiences immediately, extracting DNA from a strawberry and dyeing it Drexel blue. I knew immediately that I wanted to come here. Now, as a Student Ambassador, I get to personalize each visiting students' experience and get them as excited about Drexel as I am! I love having the opportunity to speak directly with prospective students and share my own Drexel experience."

Gabi illuminates how Drexel's academic model of experiential learning combined with world-class academics works, even on a smaller scale at an Admitted Students Day academic session. This science experiment was exciting and compelling for her, and it demonstrated just how exciting Drexel's academic model is for all its students. All of Drexel's schools and colleges offer students unique and compelling academic, co-op, research, and student body experiences that keep them engaged and enriched. And when you enroll at Drexel, you'll have those experiences too.

Lastly, we have Greg Drapkin, a fourth-year entertainment and arts management student in the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts and Design. He enjoys playing basketball and participating in theater and singing a capella.

"I remember becoming certain of my decision to attend Drexel during my Admitted Students Day back in spring of 2019. Visiting Drexel changed my outlook on what I though was simply a city school. I loved the environment and the community that I envisioned myself joining as I walked through the campus. In addition, meeting the head of my program that day brought me so much excitement. There was so much to look forward to and I just knew I was in the right place. I am grateful to now get to share my experiences during Admitted Students Days now as a Student Ambassador."

Our Admitted Students Days are not just about presentations and panels — they are also about learning what opportunities our community and even city has to offer you. Greg is reminding us that sometimes how we view a college can change with a new visit. And this is the visit where you get to meet and be immersed in the Drexel community with its Student Ambassadors, student organizations, and the faculty and staff you'll be interacting with throughout your academic career. And then after you've spent time with us on campus, the city is yours to take in and explore, especially if you're from out of town.

Learning about the network of resources you have as a Dragon and learning to love the community students thrive in are both part of the experience of an Admitted Students Day. We hope you've signed up to attend one so that you can figure out if the Drexel community is right for you.
