Drexel Campus's Best Places To Discover

I remember when I was a young kid in middle school that my father used to work on Drexel's campus. Specifically, he worked in the Innovation Center at 3401 Market Street when he was in the Y-Combinator program, which is a business startup accelerator organization. Back then, I loved coming into Philadelphia with him and visiting him at work. At lunch, he'd take me out to a local restaurant with his coworkers and, afterwards, we would walk through Drexel and Penn's campuses to go back to the 30th Street Train Station to go home. That feeling of being in a city surrounded by buildings taller than I'd ever seen before, is one of the reasons I really wanted to go to a city school like Drexel University. Boy, am I glad I did too; living on campus was everything I dreamed of and more. For this blog post, I'd like to share some of my favorite places on campus and relive them so you may too.

Let's start off with studying spaces. As a student, studying in your dorm room is good and all, but if you want to be around other students or study with friends, there are a few really good options. Hagerty Library, located right across 33rd Street from the Mario Dragon statue, has many places to study on all three floors, though my favorite areas are definitely in the basement with lounge chairs, couches, and private studying rooms for groups to meet in. Or, if you're looking for somewhere closer to the first-year dorm buildings, look no further than Sabrina's Cafe! Head through the main door and up the stairs leading left and you'll walk into a nice lounge area with many chairs and tables to work at. Though this place is more of a student lounge with its pool tables and gaming systems available for students to use, head on up to the third floor and there'll be more private spaces to study.

That feeling of being in a city surrounded by buildings taller than I'd ever seen before is one of the reasons I really wanted to go to a city school like Drexel University.

Maybe you're looking for some nice places to eat lunch or dinner? On the days when I wanted to sit outdoors, there were two specific spots I always thought of: the Rush Building's garden along Lancaster Walk and the outdoor dining area outside of 30th Street Station. The garden located along Lancaster Walk is enclosed by a brick wall with some spots having black metal bars with plants all around, but inside is such a different place compared to the city setting outside. In my opinion, it's like an entirely different world in there, completely detached from the cityscape around it. Or, if you don't mind a little city noise and a view, head to 30th Street Station! Along Market Street, there's a nice outdoor area with many tables and seating options (and some swings too!) that face Center City. That place was always so beautiful to eat at, even with the hike, because it reminded me just how lucky I was to be studying in Philadelphia at Drexel.

If it's not already obvious, I'll say it right now: I love campus and can't wait, after I've graduated, to visit it often and relive my favorite memories of my time at Drexel.
