Winter Break and the Upcoming Quarter

Snow is on the ground, winter quarter has begun, and campus is buzzing and lively once again. It’s always fun to come home to Drexel after a long break and get back into the swing of things, which in my case is another quarter of classes. I had a very enjoyable winter break, returning to Seattle and spending time with my family. This was a unique winter break for me, however, because I was lucky enough to have two of my closest friends from Drexel stay with me for a week each. Being from the west coast, it isn't often that my friends are even in my time zone, so being able to show them how life is on the other side of the country was very rewarding and enjoyable. Another bonus of having visitors was being able to play tour guide and show my friends some of the iconic places and experiences in my hometown — some of which I had never even been to before — which was loads of fun.

While being home and getting a break was very relaxing, it didn't take long before I was ready to get back to Philadelphia, roll up my sleeves, and get my hands dirty again.

Here are a couple of pictures from winter break of my friends and me exploring Seattle. The first picture is at Kerry Park, a park with one of the best views of the Seattle skyline, and the other is at the Fremont Troll, a stone-carved troll underneath a bridge in North Seattle. We really had a great time and I hope to have more Dragons visit me back west very soon.

While being home and getting a break was very relaxing, it didn't take long before I was ready to get back to Philadelphia, roll up my sleeves, and get my hands dirty again. Whether it's my own personal inclination to be productive, a fire that all Drexel students have inside, or a combination of the two, I don't know, but I was very excited to get this winter term started and get back in the classroom.

While classes are starting back up for half of Drexel’s students, the other half have been working at co-op and are continuing to do so through the winter. Once spring term begins, the switch will take place and all the Fall/Winter Co-op students will begin classes while us Spring/Summer Co-op students will begin co-op. Just recently, I was offered a position at Larsen and Landis, a structural engineering firm in Philadelphia. I will be working on the renovation and design of many smaller-scale buildings around the city, gaining experience in my field and learning from practicing engineers. I am very optimistic and eager to begin this incredible opportunity, one that is only possible because of Drexel's co-op program.
