Go-to apps for every Drexel Student

GroupMe: There are a lot of different group-messaging platforms: from group-texts to Facebook message groups. Even Snapchat now has a group-messaging feature. Drexel students by far prefer GroupMe over anything else though – GroupMe can even be used to make group-messages with people who don’t have the app by using their phone number. With native support for gifs, the ability to “like” others’ messages and more, GroupMe is a default app for any Drexel student.

Spotify and Google Play Music: If you’re like most college students, you want to have streaming on demand so you have music to suit any occasion. Spotify is by far the most popular music app, and with a college discount price of $5 a month for premium, it is understandable why many use the app, which lets you assemble playlists with friends. A second option is Google Play Music – GPM costs $10 a month, but comes bearing a larger music library, more customizable options, better support for podcasts, and a free subscription to YouTubeRed, which means no more ads on YouTube, ever.

DrexelOne: This app is connected to everything you do at Drexel – academics, organizations, housing, meal plans, and more all have interfaces through the DrexelOne app. Whether it be checking how many meal swipes you have left for the week or frantically refreshing the app to see your final grades at the end of the quarter, DrexelOne is a staple of every student.

BBLearn: Almost all professors run their courses through Blackboard Learn, an online learning interface. This is often where lecture notes and assignments are posted, and is even sometimes used for online quizzes and discussion boards. Grades for the quarter are also often uploaded through Blackboard. Staying on top of all your courses in freshman year can be tough, and having the BBLearn app definitely makes it easier.

Coffee Apps: Drexel students are notorious for their love (or need) for coffee, and there is an abundance of coffee shops within the University City area. Within two blocks of campus, there are five Starbucks, three Dunkin Donuts, two Saxbys, a Joe Coffee, WaWa, and a plethora of food trucks which serve coffee. The Drexel student body is definitely split over which is better, but one thing is certain – we really love our coffee, and your favorite shops’ respective app can help you earn cool rewards and even order ahead of time.

Grubhub: One of the best parts about living in Philly is the abundance of food options, all within an easy walking distance too. But sometimes bad weather or a busy schedule gets in the way, and this is where GrubHub comes in. GrubHub lets you order delivery from almost any restaurant, and lets you filter by food type, delivery time, and more.

SEPTA: SEPTA is Philly’s public transit system and offers subways, trolleys, busses, and regional rail trains which can take you all around Philly and the surrounding area. In addition to online schedules, SEPTA also has an app which shows delays in real time and can help you navigate between SEPTA’s many different lines and systems.
