Very Challenging, with Plenty of Support and Reward

I went to college right after high school in 2009. I thought that it was what I was supposed to do but it just didn’t work out for me. I left after the first year and enlisted in the Marine Corps. I spent five years in the infantry and got to see and do a bunch of different things.

I had been out of school for almost seven years at this point and I wasn’t exactly using calculus or physics on a regular basis.

When it came time to start the separation process, I knew I wanted to go back to school. I had no idea what for, though, and the closer it got the more nervous I became about going back. I had been out of school for almost seven years at this point and I wasn’t exactly using calculus or physics on a regular basis. I decided to try again for an engineering degree, and my wife had told me how good the Engineering program is here at Drexel. I made one phone call and got in touch with the head of student transfers, who also happens to be a vet, and also happens to be a great guy. He pushed my application through and made sure that I started on time even though it was really close to the deadline and he was on paternity leave.

Ever since I started classes at Drexel the courses are still difficult, but not nearly as bad as they would have been if the vet community at the school weren’t as strong. I met several vets who were also just starting and had the same classes I did, which really helped me learn the material and do well. I also met several veteran students who have been going here for a few years and helped me figure out other aspects of Drexel I needed to know.

Overall, this experience has been much better than I thought it would be and I'm glad I chose to start when I did.
