Living My Dream at Drexel
I always had a dream to pursue a PhD in Communication. My dream was fulfilled after I joined Drexel University's PhD program in Communication, Culture & Media (CCM).
As I came to Drexel, it was a completely new environment and experience for me. I transitioned from working full-time in Nepal to being a full-time student here. But the unwavering support, motivation, and guidance I got from the colleagues in my CCM department made it easy for me to adapt and thrive.
Soon after, I started applying for conferences to share my research. While I had presented at several conferences before, the experience of the National Communication Association (NCA) was unique for me. At this time, I also volunteered at the NCA conference, which was new and surprisingly fun. I also had the opportunity to present my research paper there, which was a very different experience.
Reflecting on my experience, I realize how much these conferences have contributed to my growth as a researcher, speaker, and confident person.
At first, I was very nervous about attending the conference and presenting my paper. When I landed at the Colorado International Airport, I had mixed emotions. Excitement for being part of such a prestigious conference and tension about presenting in front of other scholars. However, everyone was friendly and supportive, which helped me feel at ease.
Reflecting on my experience, I realize how much these conferences have contributed to my growth as a researcher, speaker, and confident person. This has helped me to explore new ideas, learn from many people, and engage with the academic community.
