Kelly Zaccheo

PhD Candidate in Biomedical Engineering

Kelly Zaccheo is a PhD candidate in biomedical engineering in the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems. Her research interests include measuring plasma membrane fluidity and cholesterol effects on Nitric Oxide signaling in endothelial cells. She received her bachelor's degrees in biomathematics and philosophy with a certificate in mathematics from Smith College. Kelly is originally from Scranton, Pennsylvania. Her interest in biomedical engineering began while she was enrolled in the Women in Mathematics program at Smith College. She attended a Coulter Presentation that Dr. Banu Onaral spoke at. After speaking to Dr. Onaral, Kelly knew she wanted to attend Drexel’s program. Kelly loves Drexel’s openness to collaborations and its location in Philadelphia.

Emily Cribas is a 5th year PhD candidate in the department of Microbiology at the University of Pennsylvania. She is currently pursuing a public health certificate while in graduate school. Emily is a first-generation Honduran American and college student born and raised in the suburbs of Fort Lauderdale, FL. Her research focuses on intestinal responses to bacterial pathogens during infection. Emily's work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals and is interested in pursuing a career in science communication or consulting.

Jintao Zhang

Jintao Zhang is currently a fourth year Marketing PhD candidate who studies consumer behavior. Prior to joining Drexel University, Jintao earned a B.S from North China Electric Power University and an MBA from University of California Riverside. Jintao is passionate about understanding consumers’ responses to sustainable products and prices. His work has recently been accepted in four marketing journals (Psychology & Marketing, Journal of Consumer Behavior, Journal of Food Products Marketing, International Journal of Retail & Distribution Management), multiple major marketing conferences, such as Association for Consumer Research, Society for Consumer Psychology, American Marketing Association, Academy of Marketing Science, and some interdisciplinary (neuroscience, engineering) conferences. Jintao was awarded a Teck-Kah Lim Graduate Student Travel Subsidy Award to support his participation in the meeting several times. Jintao is also a member of the GSA Academic Affairs Committee on the Student Policy Subcommittee.

Layla is a Moroccan-American professional learner, first-generation student, and advocate for equity in tech. She is a PhD student in Information Science and a Drexel Blue Fellow. Layla spent several years in her previous role as the Lead Research Analyst at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Department of Public Health Sciences where she focused primarily on Substance Use Disorder and occasionally got to work on projects in cancer, urology and COVID-19. In addition to being a research analyst she also had the privilege of satisfying her love for teaching by co-instructing “Machine Learning & Data Science for Public Health Research” where she taught some of her favorite topics like version control with Git, modern R programming and developing web applications. In the community, Layla virtually co-organizes the Miami chapter of R-Ladies, is a Google WomenTechmakers Ambassador and is a facilitator of Google’s #IamRemarkable initiative. She is eager to pursue her research interests at Drexel where she hopes to traverse the intersection of natural language processing methodology, substances of abuse and filling knowledge gaps with an array of novel data sources. While she's not chasing her academic dreams, Layla enjoys hiking, improving her green thumb and cultivating her appreciation for wines.
