Admission Guidelines

These are general admissions guidelines and required materials for all College of Engineering graduate programs (MS, Doctoral, Certificate).

Timeline to Apply

Domestic Students

  • Fall quarter - September 1st
  • Winter quarter - November 23rd
  • Spring quarter - February 22nd
  • Summer quarter - May 24th
  • Materials Science and Engineering Doctoral program early application deadline is December 15
  • Chemical and Biological Engineering Doctoral program early application deadline is January 7

International Students

International students typically start in the Fall quarter (September). The last day for international students to apply for Fall 2020 is June 13, 2020.

Program Deadlines

Please visit graduate admissions for specific program deadlines.

Doctoral (PhD)

  • A recommended GPA of 3.0 or higher in an undergraduate/or graduate degree program in an engineering or related field*
  • Official college transcripts
  • Standardized test(s)
    • GRE test scores
    • TOEFL or IELTS – for non-native English speakers.  This requirement will be waived if the applicant graduated from a US institution of higher education
  • Personal Essay highlighting your interest in the program and why you’d like to attend Drexel University.  Evidence of research experience and interest is preferred.
  • Resume
  • 2 Letters of Recommendation
  • Additional program specific materials

Master of Science (MS)

  • A recommended GPA of 3.0 or higher in an undergraduate/or graduate degree program in an engineering or related field* (or 3.0 or higher in the last 2 years of study)
  • Official college transcripts
  • Standardized test(s)
    • GRE (optional)
    • TOEFL or IELTS – for non-native English speakers.  This requirement will be waived if the applicant graduated from a US institution of higher education.

Note - Students that fall below the department language requirements but meet all other requirements may be accepted with a recommendation that they complete the graduate language bridge program.  For more information on this option see Drexel Graduate Preparation.

  • Personal Essay highlighting your interest in the program and why you’d like to attend Drexel University
  • Resume
  • 2 Letters of Recommendation

Post Bachelor Certificate

  • A recommended GPA of 3.0 or higher in an undergraduate/or graduate degree program* (or 3.0 or higher in the last 2 years of study)
  • Official college transcripts
  • Standardized test(s)
    • TOEFL or IELTS – for non-native English speakers.  This requirement will be waived if the applicant graduated from a US institution of higher education if the primary language of instruction was English.

  • Resume
  • 2 Letters of Recommendation†

*This requirement may be waived with significant work experience, please check with the department.

Non-Matriculated Students

Students may take up to 2 courses as a non-matriculated student after which they must apply to a degree program. Student should contact the department advisor before filling out the application to get approval in advance. Many of the application requirements will be waived for non-matriculated students.

Readmission

If a student has not taken any classes for over 1 year or has graduated from their previous program, a new application is required. Contact the department advisor for details.

Fee Waiver

Application fees are waived for Drexel University alumni.
