Drexel CCI Celebrates Retiring and Newly Promoted/Tenured Faculty

Drexel University’s College of Computing & Informatics is pleased to announce the latest faculty promotions. All promotions are effective Sept. 1.

Promotion to Associate Teaching Professor

Tim Gorichanaz, PhD, Information Science

Dr. Gorichanaz teaches primarily in the areas of design and human-centered computing. In his teaching and research, he is interested in working toward a future where people can be more attentive, present and wise with digital technology. His work sits at the intersection of sociotechnical design and moral philosophy.

 


Bhupesh ShettyBhupesh Shetty, PhD, Information Science

Dr. Bhupesh Shetty’s research interests include process pattern mining, data mining, operations management, sports analytics, information systems, and machine learning and applications. His teaching interests include data science, knowledge discovery, operations management, business process analysis, optimization and simulation modeling and business analytics. Shetty brings extensive industry experience in the engineering field, having worked with multinational corporation ABB Ltd. for six years. He earned a PhD in Management Sciences and MBA in Process Operations and Excellence from the University of Iowa, and a BE in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the National Institute of Technology.

Retirements

In addition, the College of Computing & Informatics congratulates the following faculty members upon their retirement:

Xia LinXia Lin, PhD, Information Science (Professor Emeritus effective September 1, 2024)

Dr. Lin's major teaching interests have included information retrieval, digital libraries, and programming Internet information systems (Java Programming). His research focuses on visual-based information access in the digital environment. He is particularly interested in applying information visualization techniques for information access, content management, and knowledge discovery.


Danuta NiteckiDanuta Nitecki, PhD, Information Science (effective January 1, 2025)

Dr. Nitecki's primary research interests focus on library metrics and use in management, library as place, and academic library service models. She retires as Dean of Libraries and taught in areas related to academic libraries services, research methods and management. Dr. Nitecki's professional experience includes administrative positions in large academic research libraries, publishing, teaching in both classroom settings as well as online professional development programs. Prior to coming to Drexel, Dr. Nitecki held administrative positions in libraries of the Universities of Tennessee, Illinois, Maryland and Yale. Prior teaching experiences include graduate courses in library research methods and evaluation at universities in the US and Parma, Italy, and professional online series through ARL.


Constantine KatsinisConstantine Katsinis, PhD, Computer Science

Dr. Katsinis' research interests include: Computer Security, Computer Architecture, Parallel Processing Systems, Fault Tolerant Systems, Image Processing and Pattern Recognition. Dr. Katsinis received his BS from the Polytechnic University of Athens, Greece, and his MS and PhD from the University of Rhode Island, Kingston, RI., all in Electrical Engineering. He has held positions at the University of Denver and the University of Alabama in Huntsville and has been with Drexel since 1998. He held the position of Associate Professor of Computer Security at the College of Computing and Informatics. Dr. Katsinis has specialized in computer and network security, parallel computer architectures, fault tolerant systems, image processing and performance analysis. He has been the PI or Co-PI of several research projects supported by NSF, US ARMY MICOM, DARPA, ONR, NASA, IBM, Motorola, and other companies totaling more than $3,000,000.
