Explore Performing Arts at Drexel
By Yasmin Siglam
Hello future dragons! My name is Yasmin, and I’m an assistant director on Drexel’s Undergraduate Admissions team. A fun fact about me is that I am also a classically trained singer and music educator, so I am a huge fan of the arts. If you are also excited about the arts, you will be elated to know that Drexel is an amazing place to keep performing while exploring any major. Every term, hundreds of students from across the University take part in our dance, music, and theatre programs, and you can jump in whether you are seasoned or just starting out.
If you love to dance, Drexel offers two large dance companies that produce major shows each year in the Mandell Theater along with a selective touring ensemble that performs and leads workshops in local schools. For musicians, there are four choral groups, a concert band, a jazz orchestra, a symphony orchestra, and many smaller instrumental and contemporary ensembles. This wide mix makes it easy to find a group that fits your interests. You could even earn a Performing Arts Scholarship for auditioning into some of these ensembles!

For theatre students or anyone curious about the stage, the Drexel Theatre Company produces three Mainstage shows each year in the Mandell Theater and the URBN Center Black Box Theater. These productions offer hands-on opportunities in acting, stage management, directing, design, and more. Students can also join the popular Late Night Series open mic night, which runs weekly and is entirely student led.
Performing arts at Drexel is all about community, creativity, and learning by doing. Whether you want to keep performing at a high level or simply want to try something new, you will find supportive ensembles, inspiring faculty, and plenty of chances to grow. With options in dance, theatre, and sixteen genres of music, there truly is something for everyone.
I hope this gives you a glimpse into the vibrant arts scene waiting for you here at Drexel. If you decide to join us at Drexel, I cannot wait to see what you bring to the stage, academically and personally. Please feel free to contact me or reach out to your Undergraduate Admissions representative with any questions!
