Evolve in the Tech Age: New Major in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

Starting in fall 2026, Drexel University has a new major available for student applicants: artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML). With combined coursework and teamwork from the College of Computing & Informatics, College of Engineering, and the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems, this program will prepare students to thrive in AI-driven career fields like health care, media, business, advanced manufacturing, and the arts. Along with new observations and real-world applications of AI and machine learning, AI/ML students will develop their abilities to use technological knowledge in ways that are impactful and ethical in society.
In response to rapidly increasing moves toward incorporating AI in all fields of work, Drexel is joining other top-tier research universities in providing a major that gives students unique opportunities to drive AI in various careers and workplaces. The AI/ML major also includes space for students to add elective classes, minors, and potential second majors to further expand their learning. Classes within the new artificial intelligence and machine learning major will explore a variety of STEM-focused and social-related topics, such as algorithms, building systems, and ethical data usage. This structured mix of topics will help you to have the skills, knowledge, and preparation needed to thrive as an AI and machine-learning professional.

If you are interested in applying for this program, it is advised that student applicants should have up to calculus for math and two lab sciences taken in high school or secondary school. The reason is to ensure that AI/ML majors have the academic foundation and knowledge to thrive and grow in these tech-focused fields.
