Find Your Interests Through Drexel LeBow Programs

Our guest blogger for the post below is Stevie Kowalczyk, a Drexel student pursuing a bachelor's degree in management information systems.

Participating in events and programs hosted by your college can be a great tool to assist you in your career development and help you specify what you want to focus on in your studies. Halfway through my first year at Drexel University, a guest speaker came to one of my classes to talk about his experience as a management information systems (MIS) major and the work he was doing through the Drexel Co-op program. MIS was a new major that I was not familiar with prior to him speaking about it, but I was very interested in the work he was doing for co-op and decided to learn more about MIS and what careers are out there for those who major in it.

The LeBow College of Business offers students the opportunity to get involved in workshops, which are held by professors and experts, that provide excellent insight into what working in the business world looks like.

Around that time, I decided to change my major from business and engineering to MIS. The LeBow College of Business offers students the opportunity to get involved in workshops, which are held by professors and experts, that provide excellent insight into what working in the business world looks like. In fall 2020, I participated in the 2020 Disruptor Games with AmeriGas. I worked in a team, and together we proposed process and technology changes to include Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, to support improving AmeriGas's Customer Consumption Forecasting. We were given a budget of $20,000,000 with a goal of creating a solution that could be implemented in four years. We analyzed over 50,000 delivery reports from one of the AmeriGas plants from 2017 to 2020, and we proposed a new delivery route guidance system and the installation of over 100,000 new customer tank monitors to reduce the number of unnecessary deliveries. Finally, we calculated the projected ROI and presented to a panel of judges, consisting of LeBow professors and members of AmeriGas's supply chain team.

Participating in this event was a great experience and reinforced my interest in what I am studying, and I see myself participating in more events like it. I think all students should consider participating in an event or workshop at least once in their college experience, as they can be a great tool for figuring out what you want to do for your career.
