Winter is Here, Spring is Coming

Long time no see, admissions blog readers. The snowstorm that has hit the Northeast is no damper on the end-of-the-term grind for Drexel students. At Westphal, finals have already begun and there's only more to come as finals week itself approaches. Along with this, co-op starts for me this spring, but before I trek back to New York for break I have some insight to share with you all.

As I said, Westphal finals are here. Most classes in Game Art and Production are project based rather than exam based which in turn means that we submit our final projects this week for grading. My main game title I'm working on now, S.A.F.E., is nearing the close to its beta stage and will soon be presented to the department as a polished product. This is super exciting for us undergrad game students, as we get to show off our progress. Though, it's not only in front of our colleagues: we also get to show off in front of local game developers whom Drexel invites to attend final presentations. Lots of effort has been put into our production, and so it'll be a big day. It also means spring is coming and I am excited for the end of the term because it means co-op is nearly here.

My co-op starts this spring term, running through to September for a total of 6 months. I am very hype to start, as I'll be interning at Valiant Entertainment in Manhattan. Valiant is a comic book company with its hands in multiple jars for video games, apps, websites, movies, etc all for its own comic book universe. Getting to see the full production cycle behind making media of all sorts is exhilarating. I cannot wait to start and add to Valiant's ongoing projects.

Next time you hear from myself, I'll be in New York, and so I'll have some firsthand co-op experiences to share with you all. As I said in my last post, my advice for everybody is to enjoy your college experience. And so, going with that theme I want to say that even with the end of the term crunch to bang out all your last assignments… enjoy yourself, and celebrate the hard work you've put in.

Ten weeks is a rigorous term to tackle, but means so much when you get to see the fruit of your labors at the end – whether that's a fantastic final project and portfolio piece, or a dream co-op offer.
