Registration Frequently Asked Questions
When do I register for classes?
Every student at Drexel is assigned a time ticket which is a specific day and time that registration opens to you. Aside from students with priority registration, time tickets are assigned based on the number of credits you have earned up to this point. This does NOT include your courses currently in progress. You can find your time ticket in DrexelOne. Your Academic Advisor cannot change your time ticket or help you register earlier than your scheduled time ticket.
How do I know what classes are required for my major or minor and if I’m on track?
DegreeWorks is a tool that allows you to track your progress towards the completion of your degree program, including credits earned and still need to complete, and GPA status. Should you have questions or concerns about your major requirements in DegreeWorks, please consult with your Academic Advisor. To access this tool:
- Log in to DrexelOne.
- Select the "Academics" tab.
- Choose the "DegreeWorks Graduation Requirements" link in the "Registration" channel.
How do I register for classes?
For all information related to registration, including a step by step guide on how to register in DrexelOne, thoroughly read this Drexel Central site.
Can I plan my schedule in advance?
Schedule ahead is a tool found in DrexelOne that helps you prepare for your schedule. You can view the Schedule Ahead Guide here.
What if I have Priority Registration?
Athletes, ROTC, performing arts scholarship recipients, veterans, veteran aid recipients, and honors students are assigned “priority” registration time tickets that occur before other students. Dates for the full academic year can be found here.
If you have been granted priority registration as an accommodation through the Office of Disability Resources, you should fill out a Priority Registration Planner worksheet and email it to your Academic Advisor at least one working day before priority registration opens. If you email your advisor after priority registration has already opened, he/she/they cannot guarantee you a spot in your requested classes. If you are on Co-op, you will have a Co-op student time ticket rather than a priority time ticket.
All students with priority registration through avenues other than the Office of Disability Resources will self-register for courses.
What does it mean if I have a hold?
Holds are placed on a student's account for different reasons and by different University offices. Some of the holds a student can receive will prevent registration until the hold is resolved.
To determine if there is a hold placed on your account:
- Log in to DrexelOne.
- Any hold placed on your account will be listed in the Academic Alerts channel in the top left section of the screen.
The hold information listed in DrexelOne will list a contact person for the hold on your account. Once the hold has been resolved, you should be able to register for courses.
Why am I getting an error message when registering?
Some courses are restricted to a specific population, such as a certain major or year level. If you do not meet the restrictions, you will not be able to register for that section and/or course. Please read the error message you received and click here to see what that error message means. Unless this specific course is required for you in that specific term, you will not be able to register for a course with error messages.
What does pre-req/pre-requisite mean?
Some classes are meant to be taken in sequential or a pre-determined order to ensure that students have the correct skills required to be successful in a course. The department that offers the course created the sequence for a purpose. If you receive a pre-req/test score error message during registration, it means you have not taken the appropriate prior course to be prepared enough to take the course you are attempting to register for. Therefore, you won’t be able to take that course until you successfully complete the course pre-req. If you have questions, please see the department that offers the course.
What does co-req/co-requisite mean?
A “co-requisite” course is a “linked” course that must be taken in conjunction with another course on your schedule. A “co-requisite” error message most often occurs when you attempt to add a recitation and/or lab section of a course without also adding the main lecture section that is associated with the recitation and/or lab (or vice versa). If you receive a co-requisite error message during registration, you should read the full error message and see which co-requisite course(s) you are missing. Then, add the missing co-requisite course(s) to your schedule.
What is Exam 080?
Some courses (Physics, Math) allocate time for students to take their exams so they do not interfere with their other classes. You can read more about this class here.
How do I register for MATH 101, 121, or 122?
These math courses all require EXAM 080. It’s called a co-requisite, meaning you must register for it too. You will not be able to register for a math class without also registering for this required common exam.
How do I register for MATH 119 or MATH 102?
Math 119 and MATH 102 require 3 parts in order to successfully register for the class – a lecture, a recitation, and EXAM 080. It’s called a co-requisite, meaning you must take it at the same time. You will not be able to register for MATH 119 or MATH 102 unless you register for all 3 components.
What if I need an override?
If you receive an error message, look up what it means. If it is for an elective, pick another course. If you should be taking that course that term, email the department who can help you with the following information:
- Student ID
- Class title and number
- 5-digit CRN number
- Error message
- Why you think it’s an issue (ex: This course is restricted to Marketing majors, but I am a Marketing minor who was advised to take this course in this term.).
Who Assists with Overrides?
- For minor courses outside of Westphal, the minor advisor typically assists. Here is a list of academic advisors at the university.
- If the course is a specific requirement for your major that must be taken in a specific academic term, and it is not open to you, contact your major Academic Advisor.
- For major, minor, and elective courses within Westphal, please reach out to the appropriate department: Westphal Override Contact Info.
How do I change my ensemble from 0 to 1 credit?
After selecting Register for Courses in DrexelOne, select the Schedule and Options tab. A summary of your registered courses will appear on the top half of the screen and a block schedule view will appear on the bottom half.
To view the details of the ensemble course, click on the arrow icon to the left of the course title.
Click on the number in the Hours column for the course to change the number of credits.
What if I need to register for a class I didn’t successfully complete previously?
If you wish to repeat a course because you earned a C- or below, your Academic Advisor must register you. Send your advisor the class name/title, the section number, and the 5-digit CRN number when making this request. You should do this as soon as the registration period opens to ensure you are able to be added to the class before it becomes full.
If you wish to use the GPA adjustment policy when repeating your course, contact your Academic Advisor for the form. The deadline for students to submit this form to their Academic Advisor is the last day of Week 2 of a term.
What is a Waitlist and how do I register for it?
If a course is full, students can register for a waitlist by selecting the waitlist option from the registration interface and submitting the changes. Note, not all classes have electronic waitlist options. To see if a class has waitlist capabilities, check the section comments for the course on the Term Master Schedule. As seats open, they will be offered to students in order of their position on the waitlist. When a seat becomes available, the computer will notify the first person on the waitlist. They will receive an email notification from the University Registrar’s Office, and they will have 24 hours to add the course. Note the 24 hours starts at the time the email is sent, not the time it is read, so check your email daily.
Should you miss the 24-hour window, you will lose your spot on the waitlist. If that happens you must re-add yourself to the waitlist if you still want to be in line for the class. Students who web register for a waitlist are not guaranteed to be registered for that course, so students should register for other courses to complete their course schedules. Waitlist eligibility does not override other registration restrictions so make sure you are eligible to register for a course prior to registering for the waitlist.
On the Tuesday before classes begin, students who are still on the wait list will be removed.
How do I register for a course for my minor?
If you need a course for your minor, you should contact the minor advisor. Generally, for majors outside of Westphal, this is the Academic Advisor for the major program. Here is a list of academic advisors at the university. You’ll find a list of university minors here. Click on the minor to find the appropriate person to contact.
For minors within Westphal, Academic Advisors do not advise any minor in the college. For a list of Westphal minors and the appropriate contact click here.
What are Arts & Humanities and Social Science classes?
Please read the Westphal Guide to General Education Guidelines which lists the courses that count in each category. You can also see which subjects count towards these requirements in your DegreeWorks.
What is the University Catalog?
You can find a full list of Drexel’s majors, minors, and courses in the University Catalog: http://catalog.drexel.edu/. Make sure to look at this current year’s catalog, as some courses at Drexel have been discontinued and others added.
Can I take a class while on co-op?
Undergraduate students enrolled in a Co-op program may register for up to six (6) credits during each term for which they are on Co-op; of the six, four (4) may be taken without additional charge. For additional guidelines read this. The complete policy can be found here.
How do I withdraw from a course?
Students can withdraw from courses electronically from weeks 2 through 7. The course withdrawal deadline is 5pm on Friday of week 7 every term. You can read how to electronically withdraw from a course here. Keep in mind that withdrawing from a course may impact your progress toward degree and graduation. Please consider consulting with your Academic Advisor prior to withdrawing from a major required course.
