Case Management and Student Care

What is a Case Manager?

The case manager is here to help students navigate and access the full range of resources available to them — both on campus and throughout the Philadelphia community. Housed within the Dean of Students Office, the case manager is a full-time professional staff member who provides non-clinical support to Drexel students. Their mission is to help students address challenges that may impact their well-being, academic success, or overall college experience by connecting them with the right services and support systems. Whether you're facing a temporary setback or a long-term concern, the case manager is here to help you feel seen, supported, and empowered by your university, and your community. The University case manager is here to help students with food and housing insecurity, counseling and wellness resources, safety concerns, academic concerns, and more.

What Is the Referral Process Like?

The case manager receives referrals from faculty, professional staff, and other members of the Drexel community who are concerned about students in need. For example, a faculty member may submit a report about a student who was performing well early in the quarter but, around week five, begins missing classes, fails to submit assignments, and experiences a significant drop in grades — possibly due to personal challenges such as bereavement, illness, or family emergencies. Upon receiving a referral, the case manager will reach out to the student — typically via email, phone call, or by scheduling a meeting to check in on their well-being. From there, the case manager works collaboratively with the student to identify the root of their challenges, connect them with appropriate campus resources such as Counseling, Academic Advising, or Drexel Central, and develop a personalized plan of action to support their success.
