The College of Medicine Tradition
At Drexel University College of Medicine, we celebrate our heritage as a college of opportunity, tracing our roots from two forebear institutions that embraced diversity: Hahnemann Medical College, one of the early medical schools to welcome students of all backgrounds, and the Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania, the first degree-granting medical school for women in the world. Woman's Medical became coed and took on the name Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1970, and the two institutions merged in the 1990s, becoming MCP Hahnemann University.
As these schools' proud successor, the College of Medicine upholds their enduring values: commitment to educational opportunity, excellence in basic science and clinical preparation, dedicated mentorship and the innovative spirit of revolutionary institutions.
