Meet Alum Chiemela Nwaobasi, MS, HT (ASCP)
"I learned about Drexel's histotechnology program while enrolled in another program at Drexel University. My current program did not guarantee me job security and opportunities for growth. After doing my research, I applied and completed the histology program. Upon completion, I had two job offers that raised my pay grade by almost 50%. When I reflect on my time at Drexel's MHP program, I conclude that the experience not only made me a better histologist but also prepared me for leadership in the field of histology. Through cohorts with incredibly supportive classmates and professors that were nothing short of champions, I was challenged to discover potentials that I didn't know I had. Although I acquired new knowledge about tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining, I graduated with tools vital to critical thinking, troubleshooting, and planning.
"After graduation, I sat for my HT exam and passed on my first try. Since graduation, I have had the opportunity to work in several pathology laboratories enhancing my skill in histology, immunohistochemistry, cytology, and more. I am a firm believer in making the best out of every opportunity you're presented with. Through this program, I gained access to a community that was willing to share with me unlimited information about the field of histology. This opportunity has placed me in Atlanta, where I am currently developing a histology laboratory for a private urology practice. I am a proud leader, innovator and a lifetime learner in the field of histology solely because of the tools provided to me by Drexel's MHP program."
